Peterborough Chinese School is located in Peterborough, a city in eastern England. It is a Chinese Sunday School that teaches simplified Mandarin Chinese.
The school is located at Peterborough's Jack Hunt School, a school with first-class facilities, is of close proximity to the city centre, and which can easily be reached by convenient public transportation services.
The school was established in 1991 by the Peterborough Chinese Association as a non-profit organization without discriminations to religion, race or political standing. It is both the largest and oldest Chinese school in the region.
The original intention of the school was to teach Cantonese- which mainly utilises traditional Chinese characters- and to promote Chinese culture.
At present, the number of students in the school has reached 118, and there are 19 faculty members. The teachers at the school are comprised of volunteers, who are keen on overseas Chinese education, with a profound educational background and rich teaching experience.
The school provides an opportunity for those over the age of 5 with an interest in Chinese to learn the language and gain a deeper insight into China's rich culture. Here, students not only learn the skills of Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, but also gain knowledge of Chinese traditional culture, history, art, and folk customs.
The school is the official test centre of the HSK Chinese Standardized Test recognised by China's Hanban Institute, and holds the International Chinese Test every year.
Currently, there are 10 classes in Peterborough Chinese School, with the youngest students beginning at 5 years old. We offer elementary (YCT Level 1 & 2), intermediate (YCT Level 3 & 4), advanced (HSK 4-6) and HSK adult classes. These classes will be arranged reasonably, in accordance with the student's Chinese level and proficiency, age and grades after an initial assessment.
